The Center for Innovation Competence (ZIK) SiLi-nano® (Silicon and Light: From Macro to Nano) at the Martin Luther University of Halle is currently performing research on nanostructured materials used in solar energy conversion and will be adding two additional groups of young research scientists in the field of functional oxide materials for photovoltaics and photocatalysis. SiLi-nano® is jointly funded by the Institutes of Physics and Chemistry at the Martin Luther University of Halle, the Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics, the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials, and the Fraunhofer Center for Silicon Photovoltaics. The center is largely autonomous; structurally, it is managed as an interdisciplinary scientific facility as part of the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg.

Leader of the “Light for High Voltage Photovoltaics” team of young researchers
The leader of the “Light for High Voltage Photovoltaics” team should be a proven expert in the field of
solid-state physics or the material science of functional oxide materials or photovoltaic materials. The job profile of the work group to be assembled will consist of a wide spectrum of optical and electrical solid state spectroscopy, as well as the independent production of ferroelectric oxide materials for photovoltaics. The applicant must have a doctorate (preferably in physics or materials science). International experience and experience in leading a work group and in teaching are preferable. Following positive evaluation the opportunity for acceptance of an open-ended management position at the Fraunhofer Center for Silicon Photovoltaics will be available after five years.

Leader of the “Light for Hydrogen” team of young researchers in combination with a junior professorship in chemistry
The leader of the “Light for Hydrogen” team should be a proven expert in the field of the synthesis of functional oxide and/or oxynitride materials – preferably of perovskite-like compounds – particularly via various methods of soft chemistry. The job profile of the work group to be assembled will consist of a wide spectrum of material characterization, as well as the independent synthesis thereof. Experience in the field of photocatalysis is desired. The applicant must have a doctorate (preferably in chemistry). International experience and experience in leading a work group and in teaching are preferable. The “Light-for-Hydrogen” team leader will undergo an appointment procedure (which is coordinated with this appointment procedure) for a W1 junior professorship „Inorganic Functional Materials“ with a tenure track option for a W2 professorship at the Institute of Chemistry on the Martin Luther University of Halle.

Both research groups will be funded by the BMBF for a period of five years starting at the end of 2015/the beginning of 2016 and include four additional personnel positions, materials, and financial investment in custom project equipment. Implementation of SiLi-nano®’s strategic concept (phase II) by the leader of the team of young researchers is a condition of employment.
