Annett Weltrowski studied biology at the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) and successfully defended a dissertation in microbiology 2006, investigating the structure and function of the CDF-protein CzcD from Cupriavidus metallidurans. She moved to the junior research group Bioinformatics/Toponomics at the competence center Functional Genomics in Greifswald. During this time she examined the pathogenous bacteria Staphylococcus aures via confocal laserscanning microscopy. In 2010 she joined the biomedical group in the institute of pharmacy at the MLU Halle, where she investigated the molecular mechanisms between modified polysaccharides and growth factors in cell culture.

Since July 2012 she works at the ZIK SiLi-nano® as scientific coordinator.
