Talk: Prof. J. Schilling, Acoustics - on Sound (and a Bit of Smoke)

Program

5 July 2013, 7.15 to 8 PM

With a mix of experiment and explanation Professor Schilling will reveal the secrets of sound. How does one break the sound barrier and why is there no sound in space? We will hear why each instrument has a specific sound and how the pitch of a note can be measured. And we will even see sound - with the help of a tube. We will learn that sound is a pressure wave and how important air pressure is for the spreading of sound waves.
